Free credits
It’s compulsory for students of the Design and Visual communication course to achieve 12 free credits.
The study plan suggests to achieve:
6 credits at the 2nd year and 6th credits at the 3 year.

These credits can be found between:
Curricular workshops:
They are workshops of 3 credits organized by the Design Study course, called Workshop I and Workshop II. These WS, dedicated to activities complementary to design and visual communication disciplines, will occur every year, at the moment of the last week of the winter session of exams. As the workshops are simultaneous, students can’t insert more than a workshop for year (one WS at the 2nd, one at the 3rd).
At the moment of  the career plan formulation, the workshops registration is generic and it is done with the insertion of the code “" 05EGGPN Workshop I" or " 04EGHPN Workshop II". Independently from the inserted code students can choose a WS from the whole list.
Before the beginning of the 2nd semester, the Study Course will publish the titles of the workshops of the year and the rules in order to effectuate the choice; this choice will be made possible only for the students who have insert the teaching code of the WS.

One - subject teachings
“Insegnamenti monodisciplinari” are classes organized by Politecnico di Torino, dedicated to different cultural aspects, aiming to integrate engineering, architectural and design culture.

  • Students of the 2nd year:
For the academic year 2013/2014, students have to insert in the career plan the generic code 01PTHPN Free Credits of the 2nd year and in the period 21st – 23rd of September, will express a preference between the classes proposed in the table “Crediti liberi del II anno” (Free credits of the 2nd year)”. The assignment will be done on the basis of a merit ranking considering the exams passed within the session of July 2013.
  • Students of the 3rd year:
For the academic year 2013/2014, students have to insert in the career plan the generic code 01PTCPN Free Credits of the 3rd year and in the period 21st – 23rd of September, have tol express a preference between the classes proposed in the table “Crediti liberi del III anno (Free credits of the 3rd year)”. The assignment will be done on the basis of a merit ranking considering the exams passed within the session of July 2013.

Other formative activities
Activities not included in the previous ones, organized by external or internal entities (e.g. workshops, seminars, education courses...) are called “Altre attività formative”. Customarily students can obtain a maximum of 6 credits with this kind of activities.
Students who want to insert this activity will have to deliver to the Secretariat the proposal addressed to the Didactics Commission of the Study Course within the limits of the career plan. The nature, the duration, the temporal setting and a short abstract have to be presented with the proposal.
The Commission will evaluate the formative congruence of the proposed activity with the one of the Study Course and the number of Credits that can be assigned.

Students enrolled to the MA Architecture heritage preservation and enhancement have to achieve 8 free credits. Hence they have to insert in their career plan the generic code 06KXCPV – teachings to choose - and January 2014, through the individual didactic portal (sid@home) or the self-service  box, by means of the procedure  “Gestione dei moduli a scelta”, they are expected to express their preferences on the proposed teachings. The assignment will be made on the basis of a merit ranking considering the exams passed by the session of September 2013.
