Free credits
The catalogue of FREE CREDITS is published in the Curriculum. In the catalogue you will find many different types of courses. You can choose among these courses, bearing in mind the rules mentioned here below.

1- Specific features of each course

When  you choose a course from the general catalogue, you should pay attention to potential specific features illustrated in the footnote of the Curriculum (for instance, maximum number of students – if foreseen, campus where the classes take place, video lessons, etc.) or in the course syllabus (prerequirements, class structure, etc.)

You shall make your choice following the procedure for the definition of the Personal Study Plan- Annual Personal Study Plan, available on your personal page of the Teaching Portal.

When a course is oversubscribed, it will be assigned to students on the basis of a merit ranking list, prepared by the Division of Student Affairs.

UPDATE OF 16th MARCH 2017 UNDER CONSTRUCTION

2- Training activities carrying 3 credits

  •  Additional foreign languages (for Bachelor's degree programmes ONLY - update: 7th October 2016)
If you have a language certificate of a foreign language other than the compulsory languages envisaged by  your degree programme, you can ask for its recognition at any time of your career. The request shall be submitted from your personal page of the Teaching Portal, where you also have to upload a copy of your language certificate. If your request is accepted, you will have to show the original language certificate at the counters of the Office of Student Services.
A table of  the accepted language certificates for French, Spanish and German is available on the CLA’s website. If your certificate is not included in the list or is referred to another foreign language, it will be sent to the CLA for evaluation.
  •  Competitive sporting activities
If you play a sport at a high competitive level while you are studying at the university, you can ask for the recognition of this activity at any time of your career. The request shall be submitted from your personal page of the Teaching Portal.
  •  Student team activities
If you participate in the activities of a student team, you can ask for the recognition of this activity. The request shall be submitted from your personal page of the Teaching Portal. The team leader will have to certify the nature of your participation and the amount of time you have dedicated to this activity. On the basis of such information, the Programme academic coordinator (referente cds) will decide whether to accept your recognition request and decide the number of credits you will be assigned (3 or 6 credits).
Further information on Student teams is available on: https://didattica.polito.it/team_studenteschi_en.html
  • Workshops
If you attend a workshop organized in cooperation with Politecnico, you can ask for the recognition of this activity. The request shall be submitted from your personal page of the Teaching Portal. You will have to upload the documents which certify your participation in the workshop. On the basis of such information (workshop topic, duration, etc.) the Programme academic coordinator (referente cds) will be able to evaluate your request.

3 – Internship

In the Curriculum and on the website of the Office of Career Services you can find the information and rules about the internships: how to insert an internship into your Curriculum, how to activate, perform and register it.

4 – Training activities outside the university

Universities can recognize external activities and competences acquired outside the university, in compliance with the restrictions foreseen by law (Law No. 240/2010, Article 14).

* Creation of the ranking list and allocation of oversubscribed courses

The ranking list is created on the basis of students’ scores. Each student is assigned a score, which is calculated by multiplying the number of credits of each course by the grade obtained in the exam.
Pass-or-fail exams (without a grade) are assigned the average grade of the other exams with a grade.
The sum of these products is divided by the number of semesters of enrolment (from first enrolment in the university system).
Credits that have been validated from previous careers are calculated according to the standard ratio of credits to course duration (1 semester = 30 credits).
Only those exams which have been passed before 23rd July 2016 will be taken into account for the preparation of the ranking list.

Second allocation of oversubscribed courses

If, for any reason, you haven’t chosen your free credits by the deadline, you will be offered the possibility to choose a single preference among the courses with residual seats.
