English is a compulsory subject for all Bachelor’s degree programmes at Politecnico di Torino. Undergraduate students are required to pass the IELTS exam with a score of 5.0.

The  certificates or exemptions accepted by Politecnico in substitution for IELTS for the assessment of a student’s knowledge of English are published on the website of the Language Centre (CLA).  

The English language course is included in the Personal Study Plan and Annual Personal Study Plan of every student. The information on the language certificate is filed in the student‘s personal page  (Personal Details section).   

The English language certificate is an admission requirement if you attend your first year in English. In this case you need to have an English language certificate when you apply online on the apply@polito platform of Politecnico website.If you have an Italian high school diploma, you may be required to show your original English certificate to the Office of the University Registrar. If you have a non-Italian high school diploma, you may be required to show your original English certificate to the Incoming Mobility Office.In both cases the Office of the University Registrar will recognize the English exam credits, make a copy of your certificate and return the original back to you.

In some cases the Office of Student Services can verify directly if you meet the language requirements (admission or graduation requirement). For IELTS certificates and certificates issued by Cambridge Assessment English/ Cambridge English Language Assessment: 

• If you entered the credentials* for direct verification on you application form (Apply@polito): you do not need to present your original certificate to the Office of Student Services on the day of the appointment for your smart card delivery
• If you are a continuing student (enrolled in year 2 or beyond) and you got your English certificate outside Politecnico: you must send a ticket to the Office of Student Services and provide the credentials* for direct verification

For English language certificates other than IELTS or Cambridge (but included in the list of accepted certificates published on the CLA website) you must show the original certificate to the Office of Student Services. 

*For IELTS certificates: you must provide your TRF Number. You can find this number on your certificate or in the message you received by e-mail when the results were published (please upload a screenshot). For Cambridge certificates: you must provide your Candidate’s ID Number and Candidate’s Secret Number (you can find these numbers in the message you received by e-mail after registering for the exam)
