Description Electrochemical energy storage represents one of the main research lines worldwide, above all driven by the growing number of portable electronic devices owned by each person. All these devices are based on rechargeable batteries. The current energy transition is requiring the birth of a gigafactory for the production of lithium batteries; in this scenario, our research group has just won an European project for the development of materials and prototypes at the base of the continental gigafactories with a sustainable character.
Chemical, Materials, and Energy engineering are key disciplines in this sector and, despite the fact that the master's degree course does not offer adequate means for the training of students in this field, the Electrochemistry Group offers high-level theses to qualify future engineers. The Electrochemistry Group is the only Italian academic actor, moreover, in the field of Battery 2030+ (https://battery2030.eu/), the European Commission initiative that manages continental research in the field of batteries, aimed at developing gigafactories by 2030.
In fact, a thesis in the field of batteries is an excellent business card for an engineer who wants to present himself/herself at best to industry or international academic life.
The candidate will work in the laboratories of DISAT department. The candidate will deal with the preparation of the cell components, their characterization, assembly of prototypes and their testing under simulated operating conditions: the advantage of this type of thesis is that the candidate has the opportunity to see an entire preparation process of devices at a laboratory scale, starting from the preparation of the individual components and assembling the battery at the end of the work.
The thesis work will be adapted according to the candidate's cultural background: chemical, materials, energy, environmental, nanotechnology engineering, etc. In any case, a two-week laboratory training is foreseen with the aim of making a reset and putting everyone in the conditions to be able to work independently on their thesis project.

Notes The Electrochemistry Group is a team of internationally renowned researchers in the energy field (see the group's recent successes at this link: https://www.facebook.com/ElectrochemistryGroupPoliTO).
The candidate will work on a work line currently active in the research team, gaining the experience of working in the field of applied research in an academic laboratory.
