Description The thesis will aim to the in-field recording of ecological audio and video scenes for the Audio Space Lab of the Politecnico di Torino. Ecological acoustical scenes will emulate everyday living environments, with acoustical conditions ranging from almost anechoic and quiet, to very reverberant and noisy. In-field measurements will be carried out by the innovative Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technique. The MIMO method relies on a multi-channel source prototype, specifically designed by the University of Parma, to simulate different directivity patterns (a speaker, a group of speakers, an equipment, etc.), inside the room, and on a commercial multi-capsule microphone recording in the High Order Ambisonic (HOA) format, able to thoroughly capture the directivity of the emitted sound.
The audio rendering platform in the ASL will rely on the High Order Ambisonic (HOA) technique for the sound field reproduction, so as to reconstruct the 3D sound feeling at the listener’s ears, leveraging on a highly accurate sound spatiality. In addition, visual cues, reproduced through an adequate video rendering system, will support the audio simulation, so emulating in the whole the real contexts in which speech comprehension is usually required.
