Thesis type EXPERIMENTAL AND SIMULATION, EXPERIMENTAL, IN LAB

Description The new (third) generation solar cells represent the right compromise between efficiency, sustainability and low costs. See for example the recent literature document published by our research group: https://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlelanding/2020/gc/d0gc01148g#!divAbstract
This experimental thesis aims at the development of components for the fabrication of photovoltaic/photoelectrochemical cells: the candidate will work in the laboratories of DISAT department and, in some cases, also in the laboratories of the University of Turin (NIS center of excellence). The candidate will deal with the preparation of electrolytes and/or electrodes (polymeric materials and/or inorganic nanostructured materials), characterization of materials, assembly of prototypes and their testing: the advantage of this type of thesis is that the candidate has the opportunity to see an entire process of lab-scale devices fabrication, starting with the preparation of each component up to the final assembly and testing of solar cells.
If the candidate possesses a scholarships (such as those given by PoliTO for thesis carried out abroad) or own fundings, it is possible to spend a period of the research activity abroad, in one of the laboratories collaborating with the supervisor.
The thesis work will be adapted according to the cultural background of the candidate: chemical, materials, energy, environmental, nanotechnology engineering.

Required skills Ability to work in a team; Autonomy; Knowing how to present the results (graphs, slides, reports); Hard-working.

Notes The candidate will work on a work line currently active in the research team, gaining the experience of working in the field of applied research in an academic laboratory.
It is strongly recommended to start the thesis when the lessons attendance is concluded.
