Description Electrochemical energy storage represents one of the main research lines worldwide, above all driven by the growing number of portable electronic devices owned by each person. All these devices are based on rechargeable batteries. In addition to this, the current energy transition is requiring the development of new types of batteries (post-lithium), for example aimed at storing the electricity generated by photovoltaic and/or wind power plants.
This thesis is aimed at the development of lithium and/or post-lithium batteries (the decision will be taken with the supervisor).
In fact, a thesis in the field of batteries is an excellent business card for an engineer who wants to present himself/herself at best to industry or international academic life.
The candidate will work in the laboratories of DISAT department. The candidate will deal with the preparation of the cell components, their characterization, assembly of prototypes and their testing under simulated operating conditions: the advantage of this type of thesis is that the candidate has the opportunity to see an entire preparation process of devices at a laboratory scale, starting from the preparation of the individual components and assembling the battery at the end of the work.
The thesis work will be adapted according to the candidate's cultural background: chemical, materials, energy, environmental, nanotechnology engineering, etc. In any case, a two-week laboratory training is foreseen with the aim of making a reset and putting everyone in the conditions to be able to work independently on their thesis project.

Notes The Electrochemistry Group is a worldwide leading team in the energy scenario (see the recent success here: https://www.facebook.com/ElectrochemistryGroupPoliTO).
The candidate will work on a work line currently active in the research team, gaining the experience of working in the field of applied research in an academic laboratory.
