Explanations on the Sino-Italian campus
The “Sino-Italian campus” is a program due to an agreement between Politecnico di Torino, Politecnico di Milano and Tongji University in Shanghai.
The initiative aims to train a class of engineers, Italian and Chinese, through periods of study both in Italy and in China, with lecturers from Italy as well China. The students, that will be exposed to technology and business cultures of both countries, should strengthen the ties that already existi between the two cultures and respond to the needs of the Italian economy.
Access to this initiative is not immediate but requires a process of selection, and in particular:
- The results of a motivational interview to be held after the exams of first semester, in which the score of exams will also be evaluated together with knowledge of the English language. In the case of a positive outcome of the interview, in the second semester students will follow, instead of an elective course (free ETCS credits), a course on the basics of the Chinese language and culture;
- To pass at least 40 credits by the end of session exams in July.
Students who pass the final selection, will be admitted in the "Sino Italian Campus " program.
Students who do not pass the final selection will continue their studies planned in the second year of Mechanical Engineering, or in another program, with the general rules provided for changes in the undergraduate program.
Students admitted to the program will attend the second year in English, together with Chinese students at Tongji University in Shanghai, where they will attend also other lessons of Chinese language and culture.
The third year will be held in Italy, where Italian and Chinese students will follow the classes provided in Italian or English and they will be involved in a mandatory internship.
At the end of this path, the student will obtain a Bachelor Degree valid in Italy and throughout the European Union.
Italian students, that after the degree choose to attend an additional semester at Tongji University, participating in laboratory activities and research, will be granted the title of first degree (Chinese Bachelor of Science).
