English is a compulsory
subject for all Bachelor’s degree programmes at Politecnico di Torino.
Undergraduate students are
required to pass the
IELTS exam with a minimum score of 5.0. Alternatively,
they should possess a certificate accepted in substitution for IELTS.
The English language course
is included in the Personal Study Plan and in the Annual Personal Study Plan of
every student. The language certificate is recorded in the student ‘s personal
page (Personal Details section).
The
list of certificates accepted by Politecnico in substitution
for IELTS is published on the website of the Language Centre (CLA) .
The English language
certificate is an admission requirement if you attend your first year in
English. In this case you need to have an English language certificate when you
enrol online from the apply@polito platform on
Politecnico’s website. If you have an Italian high
school diploma, you have to show your original English language certificate to
the Office of the University Registrar. If you have a foreign high
school diploma you have to show your original English language certificate to
the International Affairs Office. In both cases the Offices will make a copy of
your certificate and return the original
back to you.
The English language
certificate will be recorded by the Office of the University Registrar.
You can be exempted from
having the IELTS 5.0 certificate, if upon enrolment you turn in a stamped
declaration/certificate written on official letterhead which certifies that:
- you have
attended at least one school year at a high school in which the medium of
instruction is English. In this case the school must issue a certificate
stating that "The medium of instruction is English”.
- you have a
foreign high school diploma which is recognized by the Italian Ministry of
Education and Research as equivalent to the Italian high school diploma (diploma di maturità), or else, you
have a higher qualification awarded by a higher education institution in
which the medium of instruction is English. In both cases the school must
issue a certificate stating that “The medium of instruction is English”.
The CLA Academic Coordinator
is in charge of evaluating the declarations issued in English speaking
countries, given the fact that they are unlikely to include the phrase “The
medium of instruction is English”.
The certificate which you
have presented or your possible exemption are visible on your personal page of
the Teaching Portal (Personal Details section).
