The aim of this module is to illustrate the advantages of additive
manufacturing techniques in order to fabricate complex geometry with the
objective to maximize part performance.
To understand what are the advantages
of additive technologies, in particular in terms of freedom of design,
components specifically designed for additive manufacturing will be studied and
compared with analogous ones designed and manufactured with conventional
technologies.
Basing on this analysis, design for additive manufacturing (DFAM) guidelines will be
explained and discussed in details.
This analysis will
take into account the specific requirements depending on different technologies
and materials (plastics or metals). Moreover, the topological optimization
approach will be discussed, highlighting the importance of this innovative
method for the (re)design for additive manufacturing.
