The course teaches
students the history of contemporary art/design looking as it develops. The skills provided aim at transmitting the understanding of the design
process on various scales – from the object of artisanal/industrial production
to communication artefacts and the urban dimension – in strong relation with
its context.
Lastly, students will be evaluated both on their
understanding of the material but also on their ability to analyze
the design implications for presenting the contemporary arts to the public.
Part of the course will be dedicated to a
seminar on Advanced
Art History that will outline the main trends of contemporary art. The designers will therefore understand
the opportunities for presentation and valorization offered by the design for contemporary arts. The seminar will be based on readings and the
study of great designers and artists. Museum visits and meetings with
contemporary artists will be integrated into the syllabus.
